Smart Split is for itemised receipts such as a restaurant bill or a group grocery run. You assign each line to the people who ordered it, and ShareCost works out everyone's share, including tax and tip. This feature is in the iOS and Android apps.
Assign items
- Scan the receipt with Quick Scan, see Scan receipts with Quick Scan. When the card says … items detected, tap Smart Split.
- On Split by items, check the Group at the top and change it if needed.
- Tap one or more items, then tap the member who pays for them (Assign … selected to:). Long-press members to pick several at once (Long tap to multi-select members); the item is shared between them.
- Repeat until no item is left under Unassigned.
- Check the summary: Subtotal, Tax + Tip (Auto-distributed proportionally), Total and Per member.
- Tap Continue to Expense. The expense form opens with an exact split per person. Save it.
Fix the items
- Tap an item to change Item name or Price, or to Delete item.
- For a line like "3 × beer", choose Split into individual items to assign each beer separately.
- Missing a line? Tap + Add item.
Good to know
- Leaving items unassigned shows Some items unassigned when you continue. Choose Split among all members or Let me assign.
- Items total exceeds receipt total — please review prices. means the item prices add up to more than the receipt total; correct a price.
- Switching the group clears your assignments (Switch group?).
- Tax and tip are spread in proportion to each person's items, so someone with a 10 share of a 100 bill pays 10 % of the tip.
