ShareCost needs an account. One account works in the iOS app, the Android app and the web app at my.sharecost.app, and your groups and expenses stay in sync between them.
You can sign in with:
- Google or Facebook
- Apple (iOS only)
- Your e-mail address and a password
- A Magic Link: a sign-in link sent to your e-mail, no password needed
Create an account with e-mail
- On the sign-in screen, tap Sign Up.
- Enter your full name, e-mail address and a password, then confirm the password. The strength meter shows what is still missing: at least 8 characters, an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a special character. A password that has appeared in a known data breach is refused.
- Tap Create Account.
- Open the confirmation e-mail and tap the link to activate the account, then sign in.
Sign in without a password
- Tap Sign in with Email, then Sign in with Magic Link.
- Enter your e-mail address and tap Send Magic Link.
- Open the e-mail on the same device and tap the link. The app signs you in.
What happens after your first sign-in
The first time you open the app you see a short introduction that you can Skip. After sign-in the app downloads your data (Syncing your data...). It then asks whether you want notifications (Enable Notifications or Maybe Later). If you have no groups yet, it offers Create My First Group and Join a Group. See Create your first group.
Troubleshooting
- Invalid email or password: check the address and password, or use Sign in with Magic Link. To set a new password see Change or reset your password.
- The magic link is invalid or has expired: request a new one. Each link works once.
- Sign in with Apple needs an active iCloud sign-in on the device. If it is unavailable, try another method.
Web
- Open my.sharecost.app. You land on Welcome back.
- Choose Password or Magic Link, or use Continue with Google.
- New here? Click Sign up, fill in Display Name, e-mail and a password of at least 6 characters, then Create Account and confirm your e-mail.
Apple and Facebook sign-in are not offered on the web. If you created your account with Apple or Facebook in the app, use Magic Link on the web with the same e-mail address.
