Settle up and record a payment

ENCSDEESFRITNLPLPTPT-BRRUSKTRUK

ShareCost does not move money. When you pay someone back (cash, bank transfer, any app), you record the payment as a settlement so the balances update.

Record a settlement

  1. Open the group and tap Settle Up, or tap a suggestion under Suggested Settlements on the Balances tab.
  2. Under Select a balance to settle, pick who you are paying (You owe) or who is paying you (… owes you).
  3. Check the Settlement Amount. You can pay part of it; the amount cannot be higher than the open balance (Settlement amount cannot exceed …).
  4. Choose a Payment Method. The recipient's saved methods are listed next to Cash. Payment Details shows the account details and, where supported, a QR code you can scan with your banking app (Scan to pay … to …).
  5. Optionally Add a Note (Optional), for example Paid via bank transfer on Jan 8.
  6. Tap Confirm Settlement. You see Payment Recorded!.

If the recipient has not added payment details you see This person hasn't added payment information yet. You can still record the settlement.

Settle a single expense

Open the expense and tap Settle next to a participant under Split Breakdown. The settlement is pre-filled with that person's share and linked to the expense.

Settle on someone's behalf

A suggestion between two other members shows Settle on their behalf. Use it when you record a payment two other people made, for example for a virtual member you manage.

View, edit or delete a settlement

  1. On the group's Expenses tab, filter by Settlements and tap the settlement. Settlement Detail shows From, To, Amount, Date and Note.
  2. Tap edit to open Edit Settlement, change the amount or note and tap Save Changes.
  3. To remove it, tap delete and confirm Delete Settlement.
