By default an expense is split equally between the selected members. You can instead give each person a fixed amount, a percentage or a number of shares.
Choose the split
- While adding or editing an expense, tap Split to open Split Options.
- Pick a Split Type:
- Equal: the amount is divided evenly between the ticked members. The sheet shows Each pays: ….
- Exact: type the amount for each person. The sheet shows Remaining: … or Over: … until the parts add up and it says Balanced.
- Percentage: enter a percentage per person; the total must be 100 %.
- Shares: give each person a number of shares, for example 2 for a couple and 1 for a single person.
- Tick or untick members to include or exclude them. People who did not take part are simply left unticked.
- Confirm and save the expense.
Reuse the same split
Tap Save current selection as default in Split Options. The app confirms: Saved. New expenses in this group will pre-select these members and reuse this split. You can also pin members with the star on the group's Members tab; pinned members are pre-selected for every new expense in that group.
Good to know
- Rounding: when an equal split does not divide evenly, the leftover cent (or smallest unit) goes to the first person in the split. A 100.01 EUR expense between four people becomes 25.01, 25.00, 25.00 and 25.00.
- Currencies without decimals, such as the Japanese yen, are split in whole units.
- The expense page shows the result under Split Breakdown with each person's share.
- The payer does not have to be part of the split. If they are not, they are owed the whole amount.
