Joining a group needs a valid invite code, a signed-in account and a free place in the group. The message you see tells you which part failed.
What the message means
- Invalid invite code: the code was mistyped or the link is incomplete. Codes have 8 letters and digits; ask the sender to share the link again with Share Invite Link.
- This invite code has expired or This invite code has reached its usage limit: this code is no longer valid. A group admin needs to open Group Settings, Invite Code and tap Regenerate Code, then share the new one.
- This group has no active invite code. Ask a group admin to generate a new one in group settings.: shown to members who try to share. An admin regenerates the code as above.
- This group is full (max 50 members): the group cannot take another member.
- You're already a member of this group: open it from the Groups tab; if you cannot see it, check Archived groups.
- This group no longer exists: the group was deleted.
- You must be signed in to join a group: sign in first, then open the link again.
The link opens the browser instead of the app
- Install ShareCost from the App Store or Google Play if it is missing.
- Open the link again; it opens the app and asks Do you want to join the group with code …?.
- If the app still does not open, copy the code from the message and enter it under Join Group, see Join a group with an invite code or QR code.
The QR code is not recognised
Make sure you scan a ShareCost invite QR code, shown on the other member's Invite Members sheet. Other QR codes give This QR code does not contain a valid ShareCost invite code.
Good to know
- Invite codes do not expire by default. If an admin generated a code with an expiry or usage limit earlier, it can stop working; regenerating creates a permanent one.
- Regenerating invalidates the old code for everyone who still has it, see Invite people to a group.
Web
Paste the code into Enter invite code... on the Dashboard or open the invite link while signed in. If the group page shows Invite code expired, an admin can click Regenerate invite code next to it.
