Changes travel from your phone to the server and from there to every other member. When something seems stuck, work through this list.
Check the basics
- Make sure your phone is online. Changes made offline are saved on the phone and sent when you reconnect, see Use ShareCost without an internet connection.
- Pull down on the list (Groups, Expenses or Home) to refresh.
- Ask the other member to do the same on their phone. Both devices must be online for a change to arrive.
- Check that you are both looking at the same group and that the expense is not hidden as settled (Show … settled expenses).
Messages you may see
- Expense not found. It may not be synced yet. Please try again later.: you opened a link to an expense that has not reached your phone yet. Wait a moment and retry.
- Sync Error, Your changes are saved locally and will sync when the connection is restored: nothing is lost; reconnect.
- Sync Taking Longer Than Expected during the first sign-in: tap Continue Anyway; the download continues in the background.
- Database Problem, Unable to restore local database after multiple attempts. Your data is safely stored on the server.: tap Sign Out & Re-sync. The app signs you out and downloads everything again at the next sign-in.
Two people edited the same expense
When two members edit one expense while one of them is offline, the version saved last replaces the other. Open the expense, check the amount and split, and correct it once more if needed. Every edit is listed in the group activity so you can see what changed.
Still stuck
- Sign out while online (Profile, Sign Out) and sign in again. This downloads a fresh copy of your data.
- Make sure the app is up to date in the App Store or Google Play.
- Contact support from Help & Tutorials and mention the group name, the expense and the app version shown in Settings, see Get help, contact support or send feedback.
Web
The web app shows the current server state and updates live while the page is open. If a change made on the phone is missing, the phone has not synced yet; reload the page after the phone is online.
